Trusted Digital Piano Repair & Restoration

Moore Piano is pleased to offer in-home repair services for digital pianos—one of the only piano repair companies in the region to do so.

Digital pianos, also sometimes erroneously referred to as electric pianos, are an entirely different animal than an acoustic piano (see FAQs below for an explanation of the difference between a digital piano and an electric piano).

Unlike acoustic pianos, digital pianos don’t need to be tuned—the tuning is programmed in to the piano on a chip in the circuit board. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that digital pianos can still break, and when they break it will almost always require replacement parts to fix the piano. That means that in order to offer in-home digital piano repair services, a piano technician would have to make two trips to a person’s residence—one trip to determine which part needs to be replaced, and a second trip to actually complete the repair.

That’s why most piano repair shops require you to bring in a digital piano for repairs. Moore Piano, on the other hand, will come to your home, school, or church and complete the repairs on-site, even if it requires multiple trips.

Some of the most common repairs required for digital pianos include:

  • Replacing sticky or broken keys
  • Repairing the circuit board or motherboard (i.e., if the keyboard will not switch on)
  • Repairing the volume controls
  • Replacing cracked or broken LCDs

Brands of Digital Pianos We Repair and Service

Moore Piano currently repairs the following brands of digital pianos:

  • Yamaha digital pianos, including Clavinova and Arius models
  • Casio
  • Kawai
  • Roland
  • Kurzweil

While we can repair other makes and models of digital pianos, the manufacturer needs to still be in business and parts need to be available. If that is not the case, it may not be possible to repair a piano.

Digital Piano Cleaning

Sometimes, the contacts on a digital piano need to be cleaned—for example, if the volume is uneven or if some of the notes won’t play at all. Moore Piano can clean your piano on-site using special products that won’t damage the piano.

If you clean your digital piano on your own, be sure not to use WD40 or any other chemical cleaner, because those products can damage the graphite contacts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Digital Piano Repair & Restoration in NE Indiana & NW Ohio

  • What is the difference between a digital piano and an electric piano?

An electric piano has the same parts as an acoustic piano, but the only difference is that the hammers strike sensors when a key is pressed.  They were popular in the 1960s and 70s and are a collector’s item among rock enthusiasts.

  • My digital piano is about 15-20 years old.  Can you still repair it?

It depends on if the manufacturer is still in business and if there are still parts available for the piano.  If the manufacturer is not in business, we may still be able to replace some parts like the circuit board.  However, model-specific parts, like keys, will probably not be able to be replaced.

  • Do I need to bring my digital piano in to your store to have it repaired?

No, unlike most piano repair shops we will come to your location to fix your electric or digital piano.

  • Do you repair Yamaha Clavinova pianos?

Yes, we repair Yamaha Clavinova and Airus digital pianos.

  • What other brands of digital pianos do you service?

Besides Yamaha, we repair Casio, Kurzweil, Suzuki and Roland digital pianos.
